How to Share a Map

Aug 14Features

Sharing a map lets you collaborate with other people or give them access to view your work. Mindmup provides several sharing options, so you can control who has access and what they can do with the map.

You can invite specific people by email, share with teams, give access to all members of your organization, or allow access using a link. You can also review who currently has access and change or remove their permissions.

Share a map from the editor

  1. Open the map you want to share.
  2. Click Share in the top-right corner.
  3. Choose how you want to share the map. You can invite people directly, share with a team, or configure general access.

Invite people by email

Use Invite when you want to share your map with specific people.

  1. Open the map and click Share.
  2. Under Invite, enter the email address of the person you want to invite. To add multiple people, separate their email addresses with commas.
  3. Choose whether they Can view or Can edit the map.
  4. Click Invite.

Share a map with a team

You can also give a team access to a map.

  1. Open the map and click Share.
  2. Under Invite, choose Share with teams.
  3. Select a specific team or All members of your organization.
  4. Click Share.

Share a map using a link

Use general access when you want people to access a map through a link.

  1. Open the map and click Share.
  2. Go to General access.
  3. Under Anyone with the link, choose the appropriate access level: No access, Can view, Can edit.
  4. Click Copy link and send the link to the people you want to share the map with.

Example use cases

You can use map sharing to:

  • Invite classmates to work together on a study map.
  • Give colleagues editing access to a project plan.
  • Let a client or reviewer view a map without editing it.
  • Share a map with everyone on a specific team.
  • Send a map link when you want to make it easy for others to access your work.

Tips

  • Choose Can view when someone only needs to read or review your map.
  • Choose Can edit when you want someone to contribute to the map.
  • Invite people by email when you want to control access for specific individuals.
  • Share with a team when everyone in that team needs access.
  • Review Shared with periodically to see who can currently access your map.
  • Before sending a link, check the Anyone with the link setting to make sure it provides the access level you intend.

Common questions

Which sharing option should I use?

It depends on who needs access. Invite people by email when you want to share with specific individuals. Use team sharing when an entire team needs access, or link sharing when you want people with the link to be able to view or edit the map.

What happens if I change someone's access later?

You can update or remove existing access from the Shared with section. This lets you adjust who can access the map as your project or collaboration changes.

What happens if I turn off link access after sharing the link?

Setting Anyone with the link to No access disables access through that sharing option. People who previously received the link will no longer be able to use it to access the map through general link sharing.

Can I temporarily share a map?

Yes. Guest Pass is designed for temporary access. You can choose whether guests can view or edit the map, set the access period, and optionally protect the Guest Pass with a password.

Is sharing the same as publishing a map?

No. Sharing controls access to the map for collaboration or viewing. Publishing creates a published version of the map that you can distribute separately. See How to Publish a Map for more information.
